Illinois PTA  Advocacy Homepage

Our mission in PTA is “to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.” Advocacy has always been at the heart of what we do in PTA. If you can talk to your child’s teacher about a problem they are having in the classroom, you already know the basics of advocacy: talk to the person who can change the situation, share what the problem is, and ask them to fix it (possibly with your solution). The approach is the same when you advocate with a principal, a school board member, a state legislator, or a member of Congress.

Local Unit Advocacy Toolkit

Advocacy is not just talking to legislators. PTAs often find themselves advocating on local issues—tax referenda, a need for crosswalks, school board policy. To help your PTA successfully advocate in your community, Illinois PTA created the Local Unit Advocacy Toolkit.
