Be SMART

Safe Firearms Storage is a topic the Illinois and National PTAs follow regularly, following the adoption of Resolutions by both bodies.

Families and communities are developing essential conversations around the topic, often not knowing where or how to begin. Be SMART is a program designed to provide specific information on knowing how to begin that conversation at home, at school and in our communities.

Please join us Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. when Layla Danley, of Everytown, will join us for Be SMART.

Today’s Issues In Education: Social Emotional Learning Standards

What are Social Emotional Learning Standards?  What do parents and educators need to know about what practical tips these standards provide in determining student needs?  What resources are available?

Illinois PTA is proud to announce that Jeanne Osgood and Lisa Ward will lead the May 12th presentation.  Both of our panelists have been part of the development of conversations with parents and educators on the realities of Social Emotional Learning.  Ms. Osgood served on Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and the Children’s Mental Health Partnership to develop goals and standards in the field, and continues to develop resources for families, schools and communities.  Ms. Ward has been a content area specialist, developing resources to support the implementation of Social Emotional Learning Standards throughout the state.  Ms. Ward has been a presenter at conferences around the state, including the Illinois PTA Convention.
