A Creative Career Fair IL PTA Workshop

January 12, 2023 – 7 pm

For over 125 years, National PTA has been encouraging families to get more involved in their child’s education. The timing of the week honors the day PTA was founded, Feb. 17, 1897. Help Illinois PTA celebrate PTA’s long legacy of family engagement during National PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week—Feb. 13-17, 2023 by hosting Creative Career Fair at your school. What do careers in the arts have in common with science, technology, engineering and math? During a Creative Career Fair, families will:

  1. Experience first hand how professionals from an array of careers use the arts in their work.
  2. Understand how an arts education inspires creativity, expands critical thinking and fosters communication and collaboration skills that are used in today’s workforce.
  3. Begin to match students’ arts interests with specific career opportunities.

Read the program guide for more details and join the IL PTA team on Zoom, Thursday 1-12-23 at 7 pm CT.

Today’s Issues In Education: Social Emotional Learning Standards

What are Social Emotional Learning Standards?  What do parents and educators need to know about what practical tips these standards provide in determining student needs?  What resources are available?

Illinois PTA is proud to announce that Jeanne Osgood and Lisa Ward will lead the May 12th presentation.  Both of our panelists have been part of the development of conversations with parents and educators on the realities of Social Emotional Learning.  Ms. Osgood served on Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and the Children’s Mental Health Partnership to develop goals and standards in the field, and continues to develop resources for families, schools and communities.  Ms. Ward has been a content area specialist, developing resources to support the implementation of Social Emotional Learning Standards throughout the state.  Ms. Ward has been a presenter at conferences around the state, including the Illinois PTA Convention.
